Soul and Healing in Shamanism

WORKSHOP

Soul Loss and Soul Retrieval

When we look up the word soul, we often find definitions such as: "The life force that exists independently of the physical body." From a shamanic perspective, this is a fitting description.

There are times in life when reducing our life force becomes a way of surviving, or when an experience is so deeply traumatic that a part of ourselves withdraws. Imagine a child who is naturally full of life, curiosity, and the desire to explore the world, but who grows up in an environment where laughter, play, and joyful expression are constantly discouraged. To adapt to these circumstances and preserve a sense of harmony, the child gradually suppresses its vibrant life force. From a shamanic point of view, this child has become separated from a part of its soul.

Traumatic experiences, neglect, or the absence of emotional recognition can all lead to a loss of life force.

Just as the body enters an emergency state during shock, our entire being shifts into a reduced mode of functioning.

Often our life force returns naturally once the danger has passed. Sometimes, however, these lost soul parts remain absent for many years. When this happens, we may feel empty, emotionally disconnected, unable to express ourselves fully, or simply as though a part of us is missing. Addictions such as substance abuse, compulsive consumption, or disordered eating may temporarily fill this emptiness, but only for a short time.

Shamans have long understood these processes. With the help of their spirit allies, they seek out the lost or wandering soul parts and guide them safely home.

SEMINAR CONTENT

This seminar is dedicated entirely to the nature of the soul and the art of spiritual healing.

Together we will explore the circumstances that may lead to soul loss and learn to recognize the emotional, psychological, and physical signs that often accompany it.

As with all of our seminars, learning takes place through direct personal experience and practical application.

Participants will learn how to locate lost soul parts, identify them with confidence, and safely facilitate their return. We will also explore how to support both the individual and the returning soul in becoming whole once again, and how to help resolve the trauma that originally caused the separation.

A further part of the seminar explores the living spiritual essence within the organs and different parts of the body.

This section introduces shamanic approaches to working with physical illness, restoring vitality, and supporting the healing of postoperative trauma from a spiritual perspective.

ORGANIZER

My name is Violetta Ellisdottir, and I first met Kai during his first workshop in Norway in 2022, where I attended as a participant. Since then, I have been a volunteer and have assisted in organising his workshops in Norway. That first workshop inspired me (or perhaps led me) to begin taking photos. And somehow the right person saw something in them and I was invited to take photos at a Heilung show. And then I went again and again and again. After organising two workshops with Kai at Mt. Olympus in 2026, I am delighted to now be organising this workshop in Norway.
